Out of the Wild

Easter Sunday I got to paint Colter’s Hell which was spectacular. Not just because of the natural beauty though, but because being just minutes from home I got a special visit from my family who’ve never seen me painting on site. It was great to share my passion with them.

Mountain man John Colter was the first white explorer to come across this site on the Shoshone River where he found steam and active subterranean rumblings. Although mineralized hot springs continue to flow along the rivers edge, the eruptions Colter watched are now only marked by cones of parched stone.
